Sports Injury
Cranbourne Road Medical Centre provide a comprehensive service for sports injuries and the injuries associated with falls and misadventure at home and work.
We are able to assess your injury and the need for further imaging and treat accordingly. We have the materials necessary for making major limb casts if needed, for splinting and can advise about ongoing management for soft tissue injuries also. This is usually done in combination with local physiotherapists or if needed specialists in sports medicine or orthopaedics.
If you have an acute injury initial first aid is vital to the medium term course of your injury.
It is important to:
- Rest– this may involve a splint (folded newspaper can be useful for wrist injuries)
- Ice – commercial ice pack, frozen peas or similar
- Compress – firm non elastic bandage (not crepe)
- Elevate – sling for upper limb. Legs to be elevated above waist
(Ideally the “RICE” regime should be followed for 48 hours).
